What Is an eFoil—and Why Choose Waydoo?
Discover how electric hydrofoil boards work, how Waydoo’s Flight Assist helps riders, and the drone-engineering expertise behind the brand.
Imagine accelerating across the water, feeling the board lift beneath your feet, and then gliding above the surface. That is eFoiling: a combination of electric propulsion, hydrofoil engineering and balance that creates a distinctive way to enjoy the water.
With its Flyer EVO range, Waydoo combines this experience with electronic riding assistance, modular equipment and options for different skill levels. For customers in Mexico, PLC Marine Group provides Waydoo eFoils, spare parts, maintenance and repairs.

What is an eFoil?
An eFoil is an electric hydrofoil board. A rechargeable battery powers a motor beneath the board, while a handheld wireless controller lets the rider adjust propulsion.
Below the board, a mast connects to an underwater wing called a hydrofoil. As the board moves forward, water flowing around the wing generates lift. Once sufficient lift develops, the board rises above the surface while the hydrofoil remains underwater.
With most of the board clear of the water, drag decreases and the ride takes on its characteristic smooth, floating sensation.
Because the motor supplies propulsion, you do not need breaking waves, wind or a towing boat to get moving. Suitable flat water can be an excellent place to learn.

How do you control an eFoil?
The rider combines throttle control with body position. The remote controls propulsion, while shifts in weight help manage the board’s pitch, balance and direction.
Learning usually progresses from riding with the board on the water to short, controlled periods on the foil. The challenge is coordinating speed and balance while becoming comfortable with the board lifting beneath you.
This is where Waydoo’s electronic assistance becomes useful.

How Waydoo’s Flight Assist works
Compatible Flyer EVO Max Plus, Pro Plus and Master Plus boards include a sensor that measures the board’s height above the water. Through the remote, the rider can activate Flight Assist and select a Low, Medium or High riding-height range. Waydoo recommends using the function in calm conditions.
The system uses this information to adjust throttle output and help maintain a more consistent height. For someone learning to foil, that assistance can reduce the amount of continuous throttle correction required as the board rises and settles.
The rider remains in control of balance and steering. Flight Assist supports the riding process; practice and good technique still matter. It can also be switched off for manual riding.
Flight Assist does more than hold a fixed throttle setting. It uses height measurements to adjust propulsion. It does not steer the board or keep your body balanced for you. The Lite is the manual option in this comparison.

From drone engineering to eFoiling: the DJI connection
Electric drones and eFoils share several engineering challenges: managing battery power, controlling electric motors and using electronic feedback to make precise adjustments.
Waydoo’s connection with DJI is relevant to that background. In a published interview, Waydoo Europe’s Managing Director explains that its partnership with DJI provides access to expertise in batteries, electronics, motors and intelligent control systems. Waydoo Europe interview
For riders, the appeal is practical: sophisticated electronics can support the experience without requiring the user to understand everything happening inside the equipment. Waydoo’s Flight Assist illustrates that approach by using sensor feedback and motor control to help manage riding height.
Lite, Pro Plus, Max Plus or Master Plus: what changes?
Start with board size, flight assistance and construction. A board’s volume in litres describes its buoyancy, not battery capacity. More volume generally makes the board more forgiving while resting on the water and preparing to take off; a smaller platform rewards more precise balance.
| Model | Board | Propulsion and assistance | Main reason to choose it |
|---|---|---|---|
| EVO Lite | 90 L · EPP foam | 4,000 W Standard propulsion. Manual riding, without Flight Assist. | Lower entry price; learn throttle control and build technique. |
| EVO Pro Plus | 90 L · EPP foam | 6,000 W Performance propulsion with Flight Assist. | A compact all-round board for learning with assistance and progressing. |
| EVO Max Plus | 130 L · EPP foam | 6,000 W Performance propulsion with Flight Assist. | More buoyancy and a larger platform for learning or sharing among riders. |
| EVO Master Plus | 75 L · Kevlar composite | 6,000 W Elite propulsion with Flight Assist. | Premium construction and a smaller, more responsive board for experienced riders. |
EVO Lite
- Board
- 90 L · EPP foam
- Propulsion and assistance
- 4,000 W Standard propulsion. Manual riding, without Flight Assist.
- Main reason to choose it
- Lower entry price; learn throttle control and build technique.
EVO Pro Plus
- Board
- 90 L · EPP foam
- Propulsion and assistance
- 6,000 W Performance propulsion with Flight Assist.
- Main reason to choose it
- A compact all-round board for learning with assistance and progressing.
EVO Max Plus
- Board
- 130 L · EPP foam

- Premium construction and a smaller, more responsive board for experienced riders.
This comparison covers the standard 75 L Master Plus. Confirm the battery, mast, wings, charger and accessories included in your quotation; the EVO range has configurable packages.
Lite or Pro Plus? Both have a 90 L board. The Pro Plus adds electronic height assistance and a higher-output propulsion unit. Choose Lite when price is the priority and you want to develop manual control; choose Pro Plus when you want assistance as well as room to progress. “Lite” does not mean a smaller-volume board.
Pro Plus or Max Plus? They share the 6,000 W Performance propulsion and Flight Assist. The difference is the platform: Max Plus offers 40 litres more volume, helping with stability before takeoff. Pro Plus is more compact. For a first-time or heavier rider, Max Plus is worth considering; actual suitability still depends on weight and technique. Their listed Mexican prices are the same, so choose the handling that suits you.
Why does Master Plus cost more? Its 75 L Kevlar board, carbon-fibre mast and Elite propulsion configuration prioritise construction and responsive handling. Its stated motor output is the same as Pro Plus and Max Plus; the premium is not simply for more watts. The smaller board demands more balance before takeoff, even with Flight Assist.
Why choose Waydoo?
Adapt your equipment as you progress
Waydoo’s modular EVO design allows compatible boards, wings, masts, batteries and propulsion components to be selected for different requirements. This gives owners options to adapt their setup as their skills and preferences develop.
Battery capacity is a separate choice. A 2,300 Wh battery stores more energy than a 1,800 Wh battery, while the smaller pack is lighter. More capacity can extend riding time, but it does not automatically make the board faster. Runtime depends on rider weight, speed, wings and water conditions; confirm the battery included in the quoted package.
